[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Green Day[/lastfm] held a small, secret concert at the Mezzanine in San Francisco, CA on Tuesday night, and a video has surfaced of the band debuting a brand new song called “Carpe Diem.”
Their strategy of debuting new songs is along the same lines of their contemporaries, modern rock bands like Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers, who play them at small secret shows to build buzz for their upcoming new album.

In Green Day’s case it’s no different. They haven’t officially announced anything yet, but one has to believe they’ve been working on new material in the past year with the lack of touring going on.
Billie Joe Armstrong says the song is “about being alive, every [expletive] one of us.” It sounds like a bridge between their more recent epic-style rock and their older, more punk-ish songs from the Dookie days. And of course, Billie Joe delivers a quality hook!
