The American Idol conspiracy theorists have long held the notion that the show is fixed in favor of White Guys With Guitars (WGWG for short). From David Cook to this year’s winner Phillip Phillips, six-string strumming gents have had a good showing when it comes down to winning it all. Idol winner Kris Allen stopped by the Karson & Kennedy show on Mix 104.1 on Monday morning, and he thinks America should just embrace the idea.
“I think we should all start a White Guys with Guitars band,” Allen told Karson, Kennedy, and Salt. “All of us. We’re going to be the biggest thing ever.”
Kris Allen even has an rough idea of how this band of Idol winners would look on tour.
“The stage is like a circle, and it spins,” said Allen, agreeing that every one of the WGWG’s should take a turn as lead singer. No word on a name for the band, or if any of the other Idol guys with guitars would sign onto such a project.
In other Idol news, the gang asked Kris for insight into Steven Tyler leaving the show along with Jennifer Lopez’s announced departure.
“They’ve been on a couple of years and both of them [have] got their things going on,” Allen said. “They both seem pretty busy.”
Kris went on to say that he heard about the departures at the same time as everyone else, and has not been asked to be a judge at this time.
Kris Allen performs at Picnic in the Park at Fenway Park in Boston on August 5th.
