It’s hard to go anywhere without hearing one of Florence and the Machine’s soaring, chill-inducing singles “Dog Days are Over,” “Kiss with a Fist,” and “What the Water Gave Me.”
Singer Florence Welch stopped by to chat with WXRT/Chicago during their Live at Lollapalooza broadcast before her set where she revealed her tough tour schedule and some of the surreal moments of life on the road.
In fact, Welch gushed on meeting some of her musical heroes which includes power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce.
“I’ve met loads of crazy people. I’ve danced with Paul McCartney at the Met Ball. That was amazing. And I was dressed as David Bowie, with bleached eyebrows so that was sort of a bizarre moment in my life,” Welch laughed. “It was wonderful to meet Jay-Z and Beyonce and hang out with them. Again, quite surreal because they’re sort of the king and queen of music.”
While it sounds like Welch has had quite an eventful tour, she said it has been an exhausting experience. Since her debut Lungs in 2009, she hasn’t taken a break from the road.
“I think we’ve been on tour for about three years and it’s pretty much what we do now. It does get to the stage where you just cry all the time,” Welch admitted.
And what does she have planned for the rest of the year?
“Tour, tour, tour, tour, tour, tour, tour. Stop. I don’t know, get committed or something.”
Ceremonials is available now on Island Records.
