Another year has passed and another MixFest is right around the corner! Next month at the DCR Hatch Shell, Train, Gavin DeGraw & Andy Grammer will play a free concert right on the beautiful Esplanade for thousands of Mix listeners!
To help get you prepared for the special occasion, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and relive MixFest 2006!
For the first time ever at Boston University’s Agganis Arena, MixFest was held on Saturday, September 30, 2006. The Agganis Arena opened its doors in January 2005 and serves as home ice for the BU Men’s Hockey team, also playing host to concerts and other events.
Located in the heart of Boston with a capacity of 8,000+ people to boot, the brand new, state-of-the-art Agganis Arena was a logical choice for MixFest 2006.
Then known as Mix 98.5 (feels weird saying it, right?), MixFest 2006 featured such artists as James Blunt, Barenaked Ladies, Rihanna, Natasha Bedingfield, Meat Loaf, Augustana and KT Tunstall — good for over 5 hours of music on a fall Saturday.

YouTube was still in its infancy back then, so there aren’t too many videos of MixFest 2006 that can be found online. However, we did find these gems:
Natasha Bedingfield, “These Words”
Barenaked Ladies, “If I Had A Million Dollars”
