About the Bank of America Pavilion290 Northern Ave,. Boston, MA 02210 (617) 728-1600 Complete Venue Guide
Singer Bradley Nowell may be long gone, but his spirit lives on in the music and sounds of the punk/reggae group’s latest incarnation: Sublime with Rome, who will soon be in Boston at the Bank Of America Pavilion as part of their summer tour.
The show is scheduled for next Monday, August 20th. Doors open at 5pm with the show to start around 6, rain or shine. The Pavilion is an outdoor venue, so be sure to check the weather before you leave the house.
In addition to the headliner, other acts such as Cypress Hill, Pepper, and The Manic Low (opener) are scheduled to perform. Tickets are still available and range anywhere from $45.00 to $73.50.
When Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, Sublime immediately split up. It wasn’t until 2009 that an effort was made by surviving members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh to reform the band without Bradley. They enlisted singer Rome Ramirez, known simply as Rome, and the new-look Sublime was off and running.
Later that year, a Los Angeles judge ruled that they could not perform under the name “Sublime” unless agreed upon by the Nowell estate…which it wasn’t. Eventually they settled on “Sublime with Rome” after the lawsuit was settled in 2010. Original drummer Bud Gaugh left the group in 2011, so session drummer Josh Freese was recruited to fill his spot.
The lineup now consists of:
- Rome Ramirez, lead vocals and guitar
- Eric Wilson, bass
- Josh Freese, drums
Rome’s vocal style is so eerily similar to Bradley’s that it’s almost as if he never left at all. Check out the song “Take It Or Leave It” off the group’s 2011 Yours Truly album below and tell us what you think in the comments section!
