Next month at the DCR Hatch Shell Train, Gavin DeGraw and Andy Grammer will play a FREE concert right on the beautiful Esplanade for thousands of people for MixFest 2012!

To help get you prepared we’re counting down MixFests of yesteryear leading up to the September 8 show…so let’s walk down memory lane and reminisce on MixFest 2002!

MixFest has seen a number of different venues throughout the years, but the 2002 show was held for the first time ever at the Fleet Center on Saturday, September 21st. The Fleet Center would change its name in 2005 and it’s now known as the TD Garden.

The lineup for MixFest 2002 included Guster, David Gray, John Mayer, Avril Lavigne, Pink and Def Leppard. The ’02 show had a little something for everyone: A local band (Guster), acoustic rock (John Mayer & David Gray), 2 pop princesses (although they’d both probably dislike that label!) and a hair metal band from the 1980′s.

MixFest is special in that you get to see the artists become fans, and there’s a certain camaraderie amongst the acts that is truly memorable. MixFest 2002 saw a lot of that. Mix music director Mike Mullaney vividly remembers P!nk front and center for Def Leppard’s performance after her set, rocking out on air guitar to Def Lep’s powerful riffs. Watch the video below for more details!

Question For You: What are some of your memories from MixFest 2002? Also, with MixFest 2012 right around the corner, which act are you most looking forward to?
