For someone who has graced the American Idol stage in front of millions of viewers, it’s hard to imagine Phillip Phillips being flustered about anything. Yet the most recent Idol winner says he was a little nervous when he got the chance to meet Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman of the 2012 US Women’s Gymnastics Team before playing in the Mix Lounge this past weekend.

“I was so nervous whenever I met her,” Phillips told Karson and Salt backstage before the show. “They pushed me into the cameras with her, and I was like ‘this is her moment.’ It was an honor to meet her.”

Phillips’ song became the unofficial theme of the women’s gymnastics team while they were competing in London, something that the Idol winner is very grateful for.

“I only got to see the promo of it. I’ve been so busy I didn’t get to watch hardly any of the Olympics. It’s such an honor, I’m so thankful that they chose it because it helped the song out, it really gave it another life,” he said. “I’ll see on Twitter, ‘Oh man, I heard your song on the Olympics again, and again, and again’ and I’m like, oh please don’t get annoyed!”
