Here’s Karson from Karson and Kennedy in the morning to share his story about the WIC Nutrition Program:
September is Back to School Month! Help your kids jumpstart their day with a healthy breakfast that provides the energy and nutrients they need to excel.
Even if your family doesn’t usually like to eat breakfast, having something healthy in the morning helps your body get on the right track for the day. Examples of healthy breakfasts include:
- Cheese slices served on whole grain toast
- Iron-fortified cereal with banana slices and milk
- Peanut butter on whole-grain waffles or Oatmeal with fruit
My wife is a teacher and she suggests Turning your kitchen into a classroom. You can teach your kids about healthy eating, and even math and science, by involving them in dinner preparation with measuring and mixing of ingredients!
Exchanging your child’s sugar-sweetened beverage like juice, soda and sports drinks for water or low-fat milk can improve concentration while providing important nutrients and hydration. Eating right and being physically active satisfies the body and brain, keeping your children focused and ready to learn!
This WIC Nutrition Buzz is sponsored by the Department of Public Health’s WIC program, a nutrition and health program for women and families with kids under 5. Call 1-800-WIC-1007 for more information.
