We’re counting down all the MixFests dating back to its inception in 1993. It’s time to relive that inaugural show, so strap on your seat belts and let’s flashback to the past with today’s MixFest Flashback.
MixFest was held for the first time ever in 1993 on the Boston Common. It remained there for 3 more years until moving to City Hall Plaza for MixFest 1997. MixFest 1993 was a free show put on by the station to celebrate the coming of fall.
Some notable artists who performed at MixFest ’93 were Aaron Neville, Oleta Adams, Taylor Dayne, Michael McDonald and Laura Branigan. In addition to the national acts, there were also a number of local bands that played over the course of the two-day event.
Laura Branigan released her final album in 1993, titled Over My Heart. After that, the “Gloria” star fell out of the Hollywood limelight, keeping a low profile before passing away in 2004 from a brain aneurysm at age 47.
