So I may not be allowed back to LA ever again…well, that might be a little dramatic.  I certainly won’t be asked to come back and visit the FOX Studios lot or the set of NEW GIRL again!

It started innocently enough.  FOX Studios is NOT open to the public.  This was an amazing opportunity to tour the FOX lot and see how how/where all sorts of TV shows are made.  The likes of MODERN FAMILY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, BONES, THE SIMPSONS, and many more including NEW GIRL with ZOOEY DESCHANEL.  We were not allowed to take any picture while on the lot.  They are very serious about this policy as it was reiterated to us over and over as we walked the lot.

We went on a tour of the NEW GIRL set which was HOT.  HOT is an industry term for a set that is currently in production and filming is taking place.  We were allowed to take pictures and video but not allowed to touch or move anything on the set for sake of continuity in filming from scene to scene.  The loft on NEW GIRL was so cool and I love to see how things go together to make the scenes that we see when the finished product comes through our televisions.

I walked around and saw all my favorite features on the show: the mural in Winston’s room that Schmidt had painted while Winston was playing bball in Europe, the co-ed locker room they use as their bathroom where Nick refuses to wash his towel, Schmidt’s room in which he and CeCe make beautiful love and of course the DOUCHE JAR where Schmidt deposits money each time he commits a douche-like faux pas.  I am a BIG fan of the show and was ecstatic to walk around this set.

Then I got cocky.

What had happened was…

On TV they can’t put a brand name product in a show unless they are getting ‘promotional consideration’ AKA money.  So what they do is come up with products that look like real brands but they change the names like KEISLER beer, BULLISH energy drink(RED BULL), SKADDENS iced tea(SNAPPLE) and my favorite NUTS & MORE cereal.

All of these products were in the kitchen of the NEW GIRL loft.  So my curiosity got the better of me and I started taking the products out of the fridge and off the shelves to take pictures with.  I may have also got some of the other DJs from around the country that were on the tour with me to join in while our guides were filming stuff with the TV news people we brought along with us.

We started laughing so hard with some of the products and goofing around that it disturbed filming.  Our guide came over and found we had moved pretty much every product in the kitchen.

The set was now COLD.

So I put some cash in the Schmidt’s DOUCHE JAR and it was back to the hotel for us.
