It’s like something you see in a movie, but this story is actually a true one.  Whitney Kropp of West Branch, Michigan was thrilled to hear she was nominated for this year’s Homecoming Court.  That is, until she was told it was just done as a cruel prank to make fun of her.  She was devastated and thought about dropping out of the running altogether, but friends and family convinced her not to do that.

Once the community got word of the ‘prank,’ support for Whitney only grew.  Several local businesses stepped up to help her look her best for the big night, donating gowns, shoes and even hair & make-up services.

A facebook page was started to show her support, and has over 146,000 ‘likes’ to date.

Many people showed up at that high school homecoming game this past weekend with orange shirts that said: “It’s not cool to be cruel,” and Whitney was greeted with cheers and applause as she officially accepted her sophomore class nomination on the football field.

This is what she had to say about the whole experience:

“The kids that are bullying you do not let them bring you down.  Stand up for what you believe in, and go with your heart and go with your gut. That’s what I did and look at me now. I’m just as happy as can be.”

Movie-like ending, indeed.  You go girl!
