Combine a Mix Lounge featuring fun. with skiing the slopes at Mt. Wachusett, and what do you get? An amazing, once-in-a-lifetime event, that’s what!
In light of this special event going down Wednesday, January 16 we’ve decided to provide you with a detailed artist profile to get to know the guys a little better.
The members of fun. all performed in different bands as far back as 1999 when guitarist Jack Antonoff formed an indie rock band called Steel Train, which toured extensiveness but never approached the attention or success achieved by fun. Keyboardist Andrew Dost was a member of the band Anathallo, which formed back in 2000.
After the breakup of The Format and Nate Ruess’ departure, fun. formed in New York City in 2008. It was that year when they released their debut album Aim and Ignite. It took four years to gain recognition with the release of their sophomore effort Some Nights, but as Antonoff explained to Karson in April 2012, their sudden success is still bizarre to them.
“That’s very strange because when you’ve been doing this for 12 years like we have, nothing feels overnight,” he says.
Famous for the single “We Are Young” after its exposure on Glee and then the Super Bowl, the strength of the song went viral and catapulted fun. to worldwide recognition. “We Are Young” would go on to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts.
On December 5, 2012, fun. was nominated for six Grammy Awards, with the band getting nominations in all four major categories: Album, Song and Record of the Year, as well as Best New Artist (see the nominees in those categories here).
