After spearheading three successful rock bands (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather), starting a record label (Third Man Records) and producing albums for legendary artists (Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson), it seemed that doing a solo album was a something Jack White simply needed to cross off on his bucket list.
Blunderbuss ended up being one of 2012′s biggest rock albums, and is one of the nominees for the Album Of The Year GRAMMY. So, why did he decide to go solo? Who was the album written about? Watch our latest Inside The Album Of The Year video below to find out.
We spoke with experts, including Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly, Anthony DeCurtis of Rolling Stone, James Montgomery of MTV, author Alan Light (The Holy or the Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, and the Unlikely Ascent of “Hallelujah”, read about his book here), Booker and McCabe from AMP Radio and Stryker from KROQ weigh in on the guitar god’s road to the GRAMMYS.
In the coming weeks, you can look forward to Inside The Album Of The Year installments for other nominees fun., Frank Ocean and Mumford & Sons. See our Black Keys installment here.
