This week is a huge one for Mumford And Sons. They have their concert at the Garden Tuesday night, another show at Madison Square Garden in New York, then top it off with a performance at the GRAMMY Awards where they have six nominations. But before all that, they came to the Wilbur Theater in Boston for a private concert in front of less than 400 fans. It’s safe to say this was the biggest Mix Lounge show ever.
“Thanks for coming along,” said frontman Marcus Mumford as he and the band launched into “Babel” and kicked off the show in thrilling fashion, much to the delight of the fans in attendance who jumped, danced and clapped along. Boating a full eight-piece band with horns, string sections and anything else one can imagine, the band caught everyone up in their momentum.

They blazed through a 90-minute set that featured favorites from their debut album Sigh No More like “Little Lion Man,” a solo acoustic version of “Timshel,” and “White Blank Page,” while mixing in tracks from their GRAMMY-nominated sophomore LP Babel.

Things got quiet when the band entered a microphone-free rendition of “For Those Below,” which showcased their brilliant four-layered vocal harmonies. They closed with crowd favorite “The Cave” as they thanked Boston for the opportunity to play such an intimate show.

Things only get better for Mumford And Sons from here, as the band prepare to play a sold-out TD Garden Tuesday night, then New York and on to the GRAMMYs where they hope to win a few statues. Marcus and the guys told the Karson and Kennedy show that they are looking forward to playing the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday night.
“We’d rather play it than just sit in the crowd,” Marcus explained to Karson and Salt backstage at the Wilbur Theatre on Monday night.
