A Massachusetts native, Andrew McMahon was right at home at House of Blues for Mix 104.1’s Not So Silent Night for 2015, but before taking the stage, he spent some time chatting with Gregg Daniels and Fast Freddy backstage at the Lansdowne Pub.
“I’ve been looking forward to this since it showed up on the books, it’s so good to be in Boston with you guys,” McMahon told Gregg and Freddy. “I was born in Concord, I lived in Sudbury as a kid. I was little, I probably left when I was three or four, but I’ve got some Massachusetts blood in me!”
Many know that McMahon’s latest hit, Cecila and the Satellite is about his daughter.
“You know, I wrote it basically the month before she was born,” said McMahon. “We said, ‘Let’s try and do this and not make it too cheesy.’ That was sort of the struggle of it, but we found the thread that made it make sense, and it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.”
