Netflix Says ‘The Fans Would Have Killed Us’ If They Released ‘Gilmore Girls’ Episodes Separately

by Alisha Jackson

Last month, during the Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said “I told them [Netflix] I was going to hang myself with a shower curtain if they put them [the new episodes] all out at once, and they said, ‘Wow, OK.'”

Thankfully, Amy is still alive and kicking after finding out that the series will in fact be released in bulk. “It’s such a journey and it’s such a build to the last four words,” Amy said in defense of releasing the episodes one by one. “However, you don’t always get what you want. The good outweighs the bad in the sense that this is a wonderful place to create things and do things in a different way.”

So why didn’t Amy get what she wanted? Because her fans are just way too passionate, according to Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “If we would not have [released them] all at once the fans would’ve killed us,” he told TV Line’s Michael Ausiello with a laugh. “I’m petrified of those fans,” he added. “They are so passionate.”

When asked about fears of people going right to the end of the series, and spoiling the last four words for everyone, Sarandos didn’t seem too concerned. “Yes, people will do that,” he admitted, “but people are also good at avoiding [spoilers].”

Think you’ll be able to avoid spoilers this Thanksgiving?
