Shawn Mendes stopped by the Mix Beach House before heading off to his sold out concert at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, and talked to Erin O’Malley about everything from his inspirations to what his plans for the future are. He also took some questions from our listeners on Twitter!
When Erin first heard Shawn’s music, she was instantly reminded of Ed Sheeran, who played our Mix Beach House two summers ago in 2014. Erin’s Sheeran vibes made total sense, as the musician happens to be a huge inspiration for Shawn. “When I first started, and still now, I definitely look up to him musically,” Shawn said about Ed.
During Shawn’s Twitter Q&A session, he was asked whether any special guests were booked for his upcoming album, to which he revealed “no, not as of right now.” When Shawn was asked what his favorite song off of his latest album Illuminate is, he had some hesitations, as he compared it to “saying which is your favorite kid.” But Shawn did let us know that he thinks “Three Empty Words” is “probably the best written song,” but “Patience” is his favorite song to listen to in general.
