TBT: 1994, When Boyz II Men Sang “I’ll Make Love to You”

During this week in 1994, Boyz II Men used their swooning powers on the entire world, and claimed the number one Hot 100 Billboard spot with their song “I’ll Make Love to You.” They stayed there for a solid fourteen weeks, until they bumped themselves out of the coveted number one spot with “On Bended Knee.”

We know you know every lyric to the song, but do you remember these throwback tidbits about I’ll Make Love to You”?

1. The song was written by Babyface.

He also wrote Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road,” which stayed at number one for thirteen weeks.

2. The music video stars actor Duane Martin.

The character he plays is also named Duane.

3. There’s a radio station that plays the song on loop 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

According to multiple reports, there is a pirate radio station in Upper Montclair, New Jersey known as 91.9 WBYZ that plays “I’ll Make Love to You” on loop.

4. The song is still constantly referenced in pop culture.

The most recent reference to the song took place on the Netflix original series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In season one, episode three, Titus Burgess attends the funeral of a man he doesn’t know, and awkwardly sings Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You” instead of “End of the Road.”
