TBT: 1998, When Aerosmith Hit #1 With “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”

by Alisha Jackson

During this week in 1998, Aerosmith filled the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the #1 spot in our hearts with their Armageddon hit, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” We know you remember the animal crackers scene from the movie, but did you know these throwback tidbits about the song?

1. It was written by Diane Warren.

The chorus of the song sounds similar to Cher’s song “Just Like Jesse James,” which was also written by Diane Warren. Take a listen above!

2. It’s one of 4 Aerosmith songs on the Armageddon soundtrack.

“What Kind of Love Are You On,” “Sweet Emotion,” and Aersomith’s cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together” is also on the soundtrack.

3. It was nominated for two very different awards.

It was nominated for both an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Original Song in the same year.

4. Those closeups of Steven Tyler in the music video weren’t planned.

Sure, there probably would have been some closeups of Tyler in the video, but his screen time mostly focused on his face because he injured his knee the day before the shoot.

Those are your Throwback Tidbits for the 1998 hit, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”! Check back next Thursday for a brand new #TBT!
