Ryan Lochte‘s dance career is already off to a rocky start. Last night, Dancing With The Stars tried its best to conceal what was happening to Lochte after his first performance with pro dance partner, Cheryl Burke, but there’s only so much that can be done during a live television broadcast.
As you can see from his friend, Ed Moses’ Instagram video below, two protesters rushed the stage during Ryan and Cheryl’s score readings.
After the protesters were subdued and escorted off the stage by security, Ryan received a standing ovation, and a “Ryan” chant from the audience.
Unfortunately, the drama didn’t end there. After the two men were kicked out, four more female protesters wearing the same shirts were thrown out of the venue. You can check out that footage below.
Meanwhile, this is what viewers at home were watching:
After filming wrapped, Ryan Lochte talked to E! about the incident. “It’s hard,” he shakily admitted. “I’m getting over it, though. It honestly feels as if someone reached inside, took out my heart out and just stepped on it.”
