TBT: When SWV Were “Right Here” At Number 1

by Alisha Jackson

After SWV released their song “Right Here,” it was impossible not to hear “S…The double…The U…The V!” when Michael Jackson’s song “Human Nature” came on the radio. Both songs are solid tracks, but today we’re talking about SWV’s, because during this week in 1993, they were smack dab in the middle of their seven week reign atop Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with “Right Here (Human Nature Remix).”

Did you know these throwback tidbits about the song?

1. SWV hated the remix.

In 2014, the girls admitted that they didn’t like the Teddy Riley “Human Nature” remix of their song “Right Here.” In the video above, they reveal that the remix “sounded boring” to them.

2. You can hear a young Pharrell Williams on the track!

He’s saying the “S…The double…The U…The V!” part.

3. Originally, Tamara Johnson-George sang the bridge to the song.

You can hear the original version, minus the “Human Nature” remix, above.

4. The song may remind you of a certain whale.

That’s because the song was featured in the film Free Willy. Hence the footage from the film in the official music video for the song above.

5. The original version has its own music video.

The music video was the group’s first to feature their dance skills.

Those are your Throwback Tidbits for the 1993 hit, “Right Here (Human Nature Remix)”! Check back next Thursday for a brand new #TBT!
