Rachel McAdams Hasn’t Closed the (Burn) Book On a ‘Mean Girls’ Reunion

Just like Gretchen Wieners’ crusade for making fetch happen, Regina George has yet to close the burn book on a Mean Girls reunion.

Earlier this year, Tina Fey confirmed that a Mean Girls musical is going to happen, just not for a few years. However, the project did end up getting a jump start over the summer, thanks to the star of Fey’s Netflix series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

“We’re working on the musical adaptation, and thanks to Ellie Kemper’s pregnancy, we have this whole summer to work on it,” Fey told TV Guide’s Damian Holbrooke during her appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. Fey didn’t say much else about the musical, but it sounded like she was planning on preserving the film’s early aughts vibe. “The thing about social media,” Fey said, “is, it doesn’t dramatize well.”

The last time we smelled plastic was in 2014, when Mean Girls cast members Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacy Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, and creator Tina Fey reunited for the film’s tenth anniversary photo shoot.

Now that production for the musical is in full swing, the original mean girl wants in! Last night, Rachel McAdams told E! News that she’s interested in being a part of Tina Fey’s project.

“Sure,” McAdams said. “I mean, I loved that movie. I love Tina Fey. I love the girls. I mean, to get to kind of have a reunion would be…we got to have a reunion at a photo shoot a couple of years ago and it was over like that and it wasn’t enough. I was back in it.”

When asked where she thinks her character Regina George is today, McAdams suggested that she’s “probably had a few (kids).” “Babies who are plotting your demise in the womb,” she joked. Check out her full interview below!
