On a scale of 1 to 10, ‘Merry Christmas Will Byers’ is an 11.
Yes, we know it’s only October, but just like Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Leigh Lahav and Oren Mendez’s re-imagined Stranger Things/Peanuts mash-up brilliantly found a way to tap into both holiday cheer and holiday scares.
In the three-minute short, Peanuts character Will Byers continues to suffer from anxiety, despite being saved from the Upside Down. “Will Byers, you’re the only person I know who can rescued from a mysterious paranormal universe, and still find a way to feel crummy about it,” his good pal Dustin says. Then, he suggests seeking psychiatric help from Eleven as a solution, which just ends with Eggos.
In the end, Will realizes that his friends being there for him is help enough. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for Barb, who yes, makes an appearance in the mash-up.
